General
-What is a postpartum doula and what can you help with? A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to families during the postpartum period. This typically extends from birth through the first few weeks or months after the baby is born. I offer assistance with newborn care, postpartum healing, feeding support, light household tasks, emotional support, and guidance in navigating the transition to parenthood. -What is the difference between a postpartum doula, night nurse, and newborn care specialist? While these roles may overlap in some areas, there are key distinctions: Postpartum doulas provide holistic support to the entire family, focusing on emotional well-being, breastfeeding support, and household tasks. Newborn care specialists specialize in newborn care and are typically hired to assist with the baby's care around the clock, offering guidance on feeding, sleep routines, and developmental milestones. Night nurses, primarily focus on overnight care for the baby, including feeding, diaper changes, and soothing techniques. Their support is often centered around the baby's needs during the night, allowing parents to rest. This is often used as an outdated term. In most US states the title nurse is a protected term. Meaning only medical professionals should refer to themselves as such. -How do I know if hiring a postpartum doula is right for my family? Everyone bringing home a new baby needs support, and hiring a postpartum doula can be incredibly beneficial, but it's ultimately a personal decision. To keep an evidence based practice I stay up to date on guidelines set by the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP), National Institute of Health (NIH), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). While a doula and/or newborn care specialist is NOT a medical professional, I always recommend consulting with your primary care provider for medical advice. Additionally I maintain a CPR & First Aid Certification for Adults and Infants. -Are your services covered by insurance or flexible spending accounts? While postpartum doula services are not typically covered by insurance, some flexible spending accounts (FSAs) may allow reimbursement.. It's advisable to check with your insurance provider or FSA administrator to determine your coverage options. -How do you customize your support to meet the unique needs of my family? Every family is unique, and I tailor my care to reflect that. Before starting, we'll have an initial consultation to discuss your expectations, concerns, and goals. From there, I’ll create a personalized plan that can include anything from newborn care to emotional support to help with household tasks. Throughout our time together, I stay flexible and will adjust the plan as needed to fit your evolving needs. -Do you offer overnight support? Yes! I know how important rest is during those first weeks (and months!). I provide overnight support with feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and any other care your baby needs so you can get some much-needed sleep. -Is this service beneficial for non-birthing parents? Yes, definitely. While postpartum doula services are often associated with the birth parent, they are equally beneficial for non-birthing parents. Whether you have chosen adoption, surrogacy, or your partner has given birth, no matter how your baby came to be all parents can benefit from support and care during the newborn stages. My goal is to support the family as a unit, making sure every family member feels secure during this transitional phase. -What is your cancellation policy? The booking deposit is refundable if cancellation occurs at least 3 weeks before the service start date. For bookings made with less than 3 weeks' notice, the deposit is non-refundable. If the client cancels an appointment with less than 48 hours' notice or fails to show up, they will be charged the full hourly rate for that appointment. In the event that I, the postpartum doula, need to cancel an appointment, I will provide as much notice as possible and will either reschedule at a mutually convenient time within 10 days or offer a refund.

Babywearing
-What are the benefits of babywearing? Babywearing provides numerous benefits, including promoting bonding, making it easier to soothe and calm your baby, and allowing you to be hands-free while still keeping your baby close. It can also aid in digestion, reduce colic, and provide comfort for both you and your baby during everyday activities. -What types of baby carriers do you recommend? I work with a variety of carrier and wrap styles. While not all carriers are made the same, I do not recommend carriers based on brand alone. The best carrier depends on your lifestyle and your baby’s needs, and I’m happy to help you find the perfect fit for your family. -How do I ensure my baby is in the correct position while wearing them? Your baby should have their legs in an “M” position, with their knees higher than their bottom, and their back supported in a natural curve. I provide hands-on guidance to ensure your baby is positioned correctly, ensuring both safety and comfort. -Can babywearing support highly sensitive babies or colicky infants? Yes! Babywearing can be incredibly beneficial for highly sensitive or colicky babies. Being close to a caregiver helps regulate their emotions and nervous system, offering comfort and reducing fussiness. The gentle movement of babywearing can also ease symptoms of colic and reflux. -What is your approach to babywearing for parents with physical limitations? I work with each parent’s unique needs, including physical limitations, to find the best babywearing solution. Whether that means adjusting carrier styles or modifying techniques, I ensure that babywearing is accessible, safe, and comfortable for all parents. -How long can I safely wear my baby each day? It’s important to take breaks to check your baby’s positioning and ensure both of you are feeling good. There’s no strict time limit, but I can guide you on comfortable wearing practices for longer durations. -What are the different types of baby carriers available, and how do they differ? There are several types of carriers, including soft-structured carriers, wraps, ring slings, and mei dais. Soft-structured carriers offer more support and are often easier to use, while wraps provide a snug, customizable fit. Ring slings are quick and adjustable, and mei dais combine the structure of soft carriers with the flexibility of wraps. I can help you choose the best carrier based on your needs and preferences. -Can babywearing help with issues like colic or reflux? Yes! Babywearing can help relieve colic and reflux by keeping your baby in an upright position, which aids digestion. It also promotes bonding by keeping your baby close to your body, which is soothing for both of you. The skin-to-skin contact and rhythmic movements can reduce crying and improve overall comfort. -Can I babywear while recovering from a C-section? Yes. I recommend using a wrap or sling that avoids putting pressure on your incision and opting for carriers that provide support while being gentle on your body. I’ll guide you through safe wearing techniques and adjustments to ensure you and your baby are comfortable as you heal. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting babywearing postpartum. -Are there any resources or classes available for partners or caregivers who will also be babywearing? Absolutely! I offer babywearing education for anyone who will be involved in caring for your baby. My sessions are designed to include two adults to ensure everyone feels confident and comfortable wearing the baby.
